Here’s a photo of a very proud moment for any submarine sailor. Actually, I qualified while BREAM was en route from Yokosuka to Pearl so I was wearing my dolphins for the inspection and the skipper is pretending to pin them on for the “photo op”.
I qualified in April, 1958. Spent a stormy 4 hours on the bridge with the qual officer LT Pete Durbin, on the 20:00 X 24:00 watch with seas breaking nearly waste deep at times. Then the next morning I did a 4 hour walk through the boat with him. We had the inspection the first week back. I remember Jim Duke got his dolphins at the same time.

Congratulations for your “Dolphins”. I got my ‘Pin” as qualified R.N. in 1954. Not as hard as your life at sea but quite exciting when I went on James Bay, at the age of 24, to nurse the Crees. They are not Indians anymore but Autochtones. Political correctness!
I have been looking at all your photos. Beautiful family, home, pet and backyard. Lots of work I bet, but worth it, I’m sure.
