You know, I’m afraid that there are a great number of people who only look at today as another day off for beer and burgers. They don’t really have a sense of what today is all about. They don’t know and probably don’t care about the history of today. Well, here’s a post by Fathairybastard that explains it all pretty well. See, the fat hairy one is a college level history teachin’ dude. Read and enjoy.

"You sleep safe in your beds, because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do you harm."
George Orwell
"Those who cling to the untrue doctrine that violence never settles anything would be advised to conjure up the ghosts of Napoleon Bonaparte and of the Duke of Wellington and let them debate it. The ghost of Hitler could referee, and the jury might well be the Dodo, the Great Auk, and the Passenger Pigeon. Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Nations and peoples who forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms. " Robert A. Heinlein

Meg
In my over 10 years in the US, I must have been in the country on the 4th twice, when I was 4- and 5-years-old, and I don’t recall anything. The years I was in high school and college, I was back home for the summer every year. So I don’t know what people do over there. I never realized this until this morning.
The thing that gets me is that Dad was in Boston in 1976, while I was home. That would have been picturesque, I’d imagine.
Anyway, I hope you and Mrs Myron had a historically significant day.

Meg, we didn’t do anything historically significant. It was raining again LOL. Actually, there is nothing wrong with burgers and beer as long as you realize why you are able to celebrate today.

Hey, thanks for the link, belatedly. Been busy with a new squeeze lately and not able to read as many blogs. This shit takes time. Glad you liked it.
