That’s what some of Houston’s “finest” are saying anyway. The municipal court is coming up with a computerized scheduling system for traffic cases. It will reduce the number of days a cop spends in court. Some spend as much as 5 days a month in court. Mostly waiting for a case to be called. Well, the new way of doing it will reduce that to 1 day a month. And the cops aren’t happy.
Houston Police Officers Union leaders told KPRC they doubted the new system would work because of the massive caseload. Municipal Court records show more than 900 traffic cases are set for trial each day in Houston.
One officer told KPRC Local 2, “I’m going to stop writing tickets.”
Another officer said the incentive is gone because he will now be scheduled for less court, even if he writes more tickets than fellow officers.
Now I know policemen aren’t paid enough. I don’t have too many qualms with them trying to get a salary increase. But to not do their job because it won’t pay as much overtime is bullshit. Plain and simple.
