I don’t know why the hell I haven’t posted anything since Christmas. I guess I got caught up in somethin’. But for the life of me I don’t know what. We’re both still healthy. For the most part, anyway. Mrs Myron has had some blood pressure problems but it looks like her cardio guy is just about to get a handle on that. Oh, and she needs surgery to remove her lap band.

She got the thing in Sept, 2005 and it worked pretty well until last year. And late last year she started having pain where her gall bladder used to be. That had us concerned because that’s where the pancreas hangs out, you know? And pancreatic cancer is just scary as hell. Turns out her lap band has eroded into her stomach. Yep, there it was in the photo the gastro guy took on the way down. Anyway, she’s gonna get that surgery and then in 6 months or so she wants to have another restrictive procedure done.

Me, I damn near tore some meat off my right pinkie finger the other day. I was up in the attic messin’  with my OTA antenna (tell you about that sometime). When I was trying to get back to the little attic stairs that come up in the kinda floor for the AC and hot water heater I tripped and started falling. I was worried about falling through the ceiling so I lunged forward to land on the floor boards. I made it. But my little finger must have hit a nail or something. Man it hurt. I was close to passing out and puking. An old man has no business doing that, huh?

Anyway, just wanted to let folks know we’re okay and I’ll be posting more regularly.

It’s a Kenwood DNX8120. Boy, is it something. It has a Garmin GPS, XM sat radio (because they have the traffic channel), UPS input, iPod connection, FM tuner (why bother?), Bluetooth for hands free cell phone, CD player and a DVD player that only works when you’re parked with the parking brake on. Unless you have the parking brake detector wire grounded and then you can watch a movie while you text message all while flying down the freeway at 90 mph. I use it mostly for iPod. I have a 120 gig iPod Classic that I’m loading up with all my CDs. The Kenwood shows you the iPod menu with playlists, artists, albums and album art when available. It’s wild. And you can change the start up screen and wallpaper. I just changed mine to submariner’s dolphins. Below is the YouTube I put up to show a bunch of old worn out boat sailors. Like Bill, Park, bothe nook, etc. And click here to see the video I made when I first got it.

thanksgiving_card_2007aHere’s wishing each and everyone who might happen upon this blog today a very happy day. Mrs Myron and I are about to set sail for number 2 son’s home. He has the turkey in the smoker and the potatoes mashed. Baby Boy and his family are on the way also. Baby D-I-L made the candied sweet taters using Mrs Myron’s recipe so we know they’ll be good. We made a couple pies and a cake. But the important thing is we will be with a couple of ours sons and their families. And for that we are thankful.

I have no idea why I haven’t been putting anything on this blog. I just haven’t. Everything is fine with Mrs Myron and me so that’s no excuse. Guess I got busy readin’ all the political blogs and crap and then I started feelin’ sorry for those of us of the conservative persuasion. You know who you are. Anyway, I think I may start posting every day or so again. It’s kinda theraputical, ya know? And you guys don’t mind being an old man’s therapists, do you? I hope not.

Here’s what made me decide to start up again. I want to give you guys some relationship advice. Well, link to it anyway. If you really love your woman, Keb Mo’ tells you what to tell her.

I did a lot of cooking on the Weber during the 14 days without power. Here we have a couple of rib-eyes seasoned with Myron’s house seasoning. Mmmm good. Want the recipe? Really? Okay. It’s 2 parts salt, 1 part black pepper and 1 part garlic powder. I put on nearly everything. I keep a pinch bowl of it on the island next to the cooktop. Makes those scrambled eggs pop, you know? That and a little cheddar cheese and picante sauce on top.

And here we have some sauted onions for Mrs Myron’s baked batater. I did the taters in the microwave. Remember? I told you we had a generator. But the Weber was the main stay for the duration.

Well, everything in my area is all neat and tidy now. For the most part. There are still a lot of logs in the esplanades on the main streets in Kingwood but the debris in the neighborhoods has all been picked up. And for most of us in this area life is back to normal.

This is Felix trying to get a taste of freedom. I had to go out with him and Ginger every time they went out for about a week. Then we got a new fence. Again, Mrs Myron and I know we are so lucky. Again.

Just thought you might like to see a very short video of the debris clean up on my street. The clean up crew got here yesterday, the 14th day after. But they’ve been working all over Houston and I’m not sure when the clean up actually started. The first 4 photos were taken by our across the street neighbor. Can you see the blue tarp on the house down the street in the clean up photos? Their tree knocked down the big tree in the photos after it bounced off their roof. And I say again, damn we were lucky.

Yea verily. Power came back yesterday at 12:30 pm. Perzackly 13 1/2 days after it got dark. Centerpoint, our electrical provider had said all last week that we would get it back by last Monday. Then they fessed up and said by yesterday. The CEO finally admitted earlier this week they guessed wrong on the number of meters that would lose power. Their models told them about a million so that’s how many extra linemen and tree cutters they requested. Then we actually had 2.2 million without power. I thought everyone knew to be skeptical about any weather related models. I mean just look at the daily changes in predicted landfall of most hurricanes from the time they become a tropical storm until they do come ashore.

We got our new fence last weekend. First one in the ‘hood. There are a slew of ‘em being propped up now but we gots us a nice new shiny.

All things considered, this wasn’t too bad on the ol’ folks. And we are extremely thankful. And have told Him so many times over the last 2 weeks. And no more religion from me.

And thanks to my friends who commented below for your well wishes.

As it turned out, the eye went right over Kingwood. The downside was a bit stronger winds for a short time as the eye approached and departed. But the winds on the south side of the eye were lower than on the front side. Big upside was a 3 hour or so respite. Had a chance to get out and assess damages and talk to the immediate neighbors. The only damage my immediate neighbors or I suffered was the loss of a few sections of 19 year old fence.

One of our neighbors about 4 doors away, not so lucky. They had a big pine tree fall back into the front of their house and there was damage. A few others lost trees. All told, we were a hell of a lot luckier than a whole lot of folks. The biggest problem we face now is return of power. There are, in case you don’t know, 2.1 million Center Point customers without power.  They’re saying it could be 3 or 4 weeks, depending on where you are. And fuel supply for the few generators in the neighbor hood. I’m down to 5 gallons plus I just filled up the tank on the generator so I’m good for several hours. My nest door neighbor is running his refrigerator off my generator and a couple of other neighbors have some stuff in the freezer of it.

Anyway, Mrs Myron and I did make it through.

And I’m afraid my neighborhood will get wind and rain this time. I just wish ol’ Ike would settle down and stop moving around. Actually, if it moves further south I’ll be happy. There for a while it was going to be within 15 miles or so of me. The latest forecast path has it about 50 miles away. Not enough but better than 15 that’s for sure.

"You sleep safe in your beds, because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do you harm." George Orwell

"Those who cling to the untrue doctrine that violence never settles anything would be advised to conjure up the ghosts of Napoleon Bonaparte and of the Duke of Wellington and let them debate it. The ghost of Hitler could referee, and the jury might well be the Dodo, the Great Auk, and the Passenger Pigeon. Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Nations and peoples who forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms. " Robert A. Heinlein
