This photo of Sabrina just about says it all. The kitchen window faces southwest so we gets us some afternoon sun.

Me, I haven’t been up to much lately. Mostly just lazing around the house. And trying to look busy so Mrs Myron won’t try to find me a project. I have been baking a bit of bread with my new bread machine thingy. I found a rissipy for honey wheat that was okay but needs some fine tuning. I’ll post it when I get it to my liking.
I still need to make some jam in it just because I can. Looks easy enough but I really wish I could find a recipe for orange marmalade that I could use in the machine. I can eat me some marmalade on toast.
And just for grins here’s Sabrina. I submitted it to I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER so let’s see if it gets posted there.

Please welcome our new granddaiughter Kristen Brianne who arrived on the scene this morning at 9:02. Can’t wait to get my grubby old paws on her. Our travels are somewhat limited now but we’ll probably get there this weekend. And Christmas. Granny’s got some spoilin’ to do. And Gramps too.

Brother Kellen and sister Katherine are happy to have her in the family.

And that’s my baby boy Kelly holding his baby boy Kaden. And baby daughter in law Amy. She’s the only one in that family whose name doesn’t start with a K. Well, Kelly’s first name is actually Myron but Mrs Myron never liked it so he grew up as Kelly.

Don’t worry kids. Granny and gramps will be there soon.

After 7 or 8 weeks at sea on an old diesel, a sailor was kinda thirsty. Left to right it’s James Haase, James Kelly, me, and Ronnie “Buddha” Stout. We were in Sasebo, Japan. We had to wear uniforms instead of civvies while on liberty in Sasebo. This was in the summer of ‘59, shortly after that northern run I mentioned below.
My ’stache did turn into a handlebar before we returned to Pearl. We used torpedo sealing wax to curl the ends up with. Don’t have a photo of that, though.
Check out that bottle of Asahi. Damn that was good stuff. It cost anywhere from 75 to 225 yen a bottle. If you were in a submarine bar it was high. The further away from the submarine hangouts you got, the cheaper it got. And the official exchange rate for us was 360 yen for $1. The value of the yen actually floated and was usually between 400 and 450 to one at that time. The US gummint held the exchange rate done for the military as a way to help control inflation. That’s what they told us anyway.
I don’t have the foggiest idea what I’m doing. Just screwing around while Mrs Myron takes a much needed nap. We had a pool full of kids and grandkids over today.

And Ginger was here

Or rather Mrs Myron’s backyard. She is responsible for the way it looks. Click the “More Photos” link over there on the left to see the rest. This is my first try with flickr so be patient with an old man. I already see you have to watch the order you upload. Flickr displays last uploaded first on the main page. But if you go to Mrs Myron’s Patio they’re in the order I wanted them in. And with comments. How ’bout dat?

Notice the plant is in the nursery pot? We had a bunch set out for to be planted. I was watering them and Ginger decided to sample the water. She took a few sips out of every pot I watered. In the last picture you can see the large sago palms that were almost her undoing. I hope it was almost. Oh, yeah. Click the pics to see big ‘uns.
Story on the sagos is my wife wanted them years ago and I didn’t. #2 son gave her a pair for Mother’s Day. They’ve been in barrels for years. I had a couple of large decorative pear trees removed last year and the guys trimmed all our crepe myrtles and the sagos. She said they were trimmed too much. But when we started planting new stuff a couple of weeks ago she said plant them. She decided she really didn’t like them anymore because they were trimmed too severely. (We still have 6 small ones planted) So up they came. They’re in pots so #3 son can take them. #2 son lives in an apartment and his betrothed doesn’t have room for them in her yard. Anyway, when the yard guys were digging them up, they cut at least one pup off the largest one. Thursday afternoon I whistled the dogs in and when Ginger came running through the door, she had half of one of the pups in her mouth. Vet time. Sagos can be deadly to dogs.
I took her in and the vet gave her something to make her throw up and wanted to watch her for about an hour or so. I picked her up about an hour and a half later and they said she had thrown up quite a bit. The vet then gave her some filter charcoal to absorb what might be in her stomach. We were about 15 minutes from the house when she climbed up on me and lay her head on the window sill. Then she started throwing up. My left arm was covered from my shoulder to my wrist in black slime. It ran down my side and under my butt. What a mess
I brought her in and gave her a bath, took a shower, cleaned the car as best I could and went to El Ranchero to pick up the food I had ordered when I left the vets. I was gonna run in and pick it up on the way home. Not covered with black slime, however.
As I said, I hope the sago was only almost her undoing. I have to take her back in Monday morning to get her liver functions tested. The sago destroys the liver. Keep your fingers crossed for my little girl.
Well, for me, anyway. The guys that are here to prep the pool for re-plaster are kinda busy. They’ve started pumping down and as soon as the water was below the decorative tile, one of them (the kid) started hanging over the edge with a grinder grinding the plaster out at the bottom of the tile.
When I opened the back gate and they were carrying the pump in I kinda laughed and said “suck me silly with a Handy Billy” and the older guy, about my age, died laughing. Hi son, late teens or early 20’s looked at me like, huh? And if you’re not a Navy vet I’ll explain. The Navy had a large damage control pump and a small one for pumping water out of damaged compartments, etc aboard ship. The smaller pump was called a Handy Billy. And sailors being the perverts we are…..
Went to the dermatologist yesterday and had the stitches removed from my nose. Wear sunblock y’all.

I had my camera with me and on the way there I got this half-ass shot of the downtown skyline. I severely cropped it so you wouldn’t see all the concrete of the freeway.
It is to me. The fake curved roof reminds me of an Army Air Corps hanger from WWII. The main problem is parking. See, this is a doctor’s office building. Some history first, OK? A couple of years ago my GP told me he had sold his practice to Houston Physicians something or other. He signed a 7 year contract with them. Anyway, his practice consists of 3 doctors and a PA. Their old office was located in Kingwood Medical Center. Another story there. Anyway, the offices and exam rooms were of a decent size with ample parking. Well, HPA bought several other practices including an oncology lab where folks get chemo, radiation, etc. Well, HPA decides to build a new building. This is it.
The problems are:
1) Exam rooms are so small there’s barely room to get a fat old man like me in there.
2) Parking is insufficient. There are 25 plus doctors, a lab, a pharmacy, the oncology lab plus all the administrative staff. And somewhere around 60 or 75 parking spaces. One of the nurses told me they have to park down the street. I don’t think there are even enough spots for all the doctors. Hell, I had to park a quarter mile down the street the other day.
The one nice thing they did was put this nice fountain in a little covered plaza outside the oncology lab, on the right, to give folks getting their chemo something to stare at.
